Remember this from last year? "Anyway, we’re not looking for any new people, nor are any current Pains leaving. If I pull a stunt like that again, it’ll likely be me that’s getting kicked to the curb. Lesson learned and page turned, Kip." What a liar. He WAS looking for new vocalists and said he wasn't. AND he tried to cover it up. At least be honest; he was looking around. And now we see the new lineup. We see the new female vocalists he was looking for. We see the former members gone.

I’m not sure if this is an appropriate inbox to post on this decidedly pro-POBPAH blog or not but considering this is a fan space and considering you are a fan, my instinct says ‘sure, why not?’ And maybe this post can be a good start to a conversation about what actually is going on at present. Feelings are high, and if I’m correct they seem not so much about sentimentality around the initial lineup as they are about ‘wait…can someone even explain what happened?’ I think Pains have always been an important band in the sense that they were looked up to as a voice of truth for a lot of us and it is a bit hard to reconcile with the reality that there now seems to be these walls up that weren’t there before. x

  • Interviewer: You had a girl come up to you saying that she was crying during the show. That must have felt great to know someone cares about your music so much!
  • Kip: Maybe it’s because she thought we were so bad that she was crying. I don’t know; it was really sweet. We’re not like a cool-guy band who are so austere and a difficult kind of band, you know. We write pop songs about our feelings, and to see someone really connect with it in that way is really special and a really wonderful moment when you see that the thing you do is actually—at least for one person—it means something to them.
